Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) has denied that its chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Hospital Putrajaya for breathing difficulties, following a message that had gone viral on social media.
A message posted on its official Facebook page yesterday evening said that a viral message, claiming that Mahathir had experienced difficulty breathing while on his way to an event in Puchong, was false.
“We would like to note that the message being circulated is not true at all,” PPBM said in the post which was accompanied by a copy of the message.
The viral message read: “BREAKING NEWS: PPBM chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was earlier admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of Hospital Putrajaya. According to a source, Tun Dr Mahathir experienced difficulty breathing while en route to an event in Puchong.”
The former premier has a history of heart complications and was most recently admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) last year with a chest infection.
He underwent a bypass operation following a heart attack in 1989. He subsequently experienced several more cardiac arrests and had a second bypass in 2007.
