The magistrate’s court in Putrajaya today extended the remand order for another six days against a 40-year-old former deputy undersecretary (infrastructure) of the Rural and Regional Development Ministry.

This was to facilitate a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) probe into allegations of misappropriation of RM1.5 billion in federal funds allocated for rural development projects in Sabah.

The extension order issued today will expire on Oct 17.

The ex-ministry staff was arrested at the MACC headquarters on Oct 5 after being called in to provide her statement.

So far, seven people have been arrested in connection with the case.

The others under remand are Parti Warisan Sabah vice-president Peter Anthony, Warisan Youth chief Azis Jamman, Tenom Umno Youth head Jamawi Jaafar, Tawau Umno Youth leader Ariffin Kassim, businessman Yu Sing Kong, and Hamid Apdal, who is the younger brother of former Rural and Regional Development minister and Warisan president Shafie Apdal.

Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has denied claims that the investigation is a political move against Warisan.
