Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has denied rumours that he will be attending the anti-Icerd rally on Saturday (Dec 8) along with the Johor and Pahang sultans.
Claims had spread on WhatsApp that he, the Johor Sultan, and the acting Pahang Sultan would be attending the protest in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow organised by conservative Malay-Muslim coalition Ummah, Umno and PAS.
In a statement issued by the sultan’s private secretary Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani on the Selangor Royal Office’s Facebook page, Sultan Sharafuddin urged all parties not to include his name in any rally, be it political or NGO-related.
“These type of statements can confuse the people. The Selangor Ruler is not supposed to be involved in any rally organised by any party,” the statement read.
“Therefore, DYMM Selangor Sultan reminds the people not to believe fake news like this,” Mohamad Munir said.
Meanwhile, Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar has expressed his annoyance over rumours that His Majesty will participate in the Icerd rally in Kuala Lumpur.
“I would like to remind everyone that fake information is being circulated on social media. Please do not be easily influenced and believe anything you read. Always verify it first,” he said in a statement posted on his official Facebook page on Friday (Dec 7).
Sultan Ibrahim is currently in Japan.
