The prosecution in the 1MDB trial has issued a show-cause letter to Umno Supreme Council member Lokman Noor Adam for threatening Najib Razak’s former special officer Amhari Efendi Nazaruddin.

It is understood that the letter was sent on Monday and Lokman has seven days to reply.

“The letter was issued under Order 52 Rule 2B of the High Court Rules. We will initiate contempt proceedings against Lokman if we are not satisfied with his reply,” a source told FMT.

Deputy public prosecutor Mohamad Mustafa Kunyalam, who is part of the prosecution team, confirmed that he signed the show-cause letter.

Lokman is said to have lodged a police report against Amhari, asking the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate and prosecute the witness for receiving money from fugitive financier Low Taek Jho.

He also attacked MACC chief Latheefa Koya for inaction, and uploaded a video repeating the allegation made in the report.

Najib is facing 25 charges of money laundering and abuse of power over alleged 1MDB funds.

He is accused of abusing his position to obtain RM2.28 billion in bribes in February 2011 and December 2014.

The trial will resume before judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah on Monday. – FMT
