Tronoh assemblyman Paul Yong’s return to legislative duties while facing trial for alleged rape appears to have been without the consent of his leaders in Perak DAP, going by an audio clip that is being shared on WhatsApp.

The 18-second clip is of a man’s voice resembling that of Perak DAP chief Nga Kor Ming, complaining about someone who is “wearing DAP clothes, taking DAP salary but thinks he’s a big shot”.

“Now he says he has returned to work without getting approval from DAP.

“I don’t want to say who but I think you all know who I mean,” the voice in the recording says in Mandarin.

It is not clear to whom the voice is speaking but other people can be heard in the background in part of the clip.

Yong’s name is not mentioned in the clip, but the audio is accompanied by a still picture of a silhouette and the words ‘Black Hand’, Malay subtitles of the words spoken, and a Chinese newspaper’s report on Yong returning to his legislative duties.

The exco in charge of housing, local government, transport, non-Muslim affairs and new villages said he decided to return to work after discussing the matter with Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu.

“The menteri besar supports me to return to duty as usual,” Yong said on Friday.

The audio is said to be recorded from a speech during the appointment of Perak DAP council members held at the Tower Regency Hotel recently.
