Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was released from custody at about 12.50pm today, after paying the first instalment of his RM2 million bail imposed by the Sessions Court.

Zahid met with his supporters in the compound after putting up the money and later gave a press conference in front of the main guardhouse.

The Umno president has described the 45 charges against him as a test from God and vowed to use the court proceedings as a platform to clear his name.

“I will use the court as the best platform, not only to defend myself against all the allegations but to make everything clear,” he told reporters.

He was then ushered to a white Lexus LX 570 SUV waiting for him.

The Umno president faces 27 counts under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act, 10 counts for committing breach of trust under Section 409 of the Penal Code and eight counts of receiving bribe under Section 16 (a)(b) of MACC Act 2009.

The 27 charges under Amla involve RM72,063,618.15 , while the 10 CBT charges involve RM20,833,132.99 and the eight charges of corruption RM21,250,000.

He has to pay the remaining RM1 million of the bail by October 26.

The court also set December 14 for the mention of his case.
