The Malays will not perish without Umno just as the Chinese in Malaysia will not perish without MCA, and Indians will not perish without MIC, DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang said last night.
Three demographic factors ensure Malays won’t perish without Umno:
- Increasing Malay percentage in population
- Overwhelming majority of voters are Malay
- Overwhelming majority of parliamentary and state assembly constituencies are Malay voter-majority constituencies
Umno leaders during the 14th General Election had warned that the Malays would perish in Malaysia if Umno was defeated, Lim said, adding that this was proven to be false.
How can the Malays perish in Malaysia when Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is the seventh prime minister and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will be the eighth prime minister, he asked.
“There are voices suggesting that Umno and PAS should join hands as the Malays and Islam are under threat,” the DAP MP for Iskandar Puteri said in Kuala Lumpur last night.
Lim pointed out that three demographic factors would ensure that the Malays won’t perish with Umno defeated.
“Firstly, the increasing Malay percentage in the Malaysian population; secondly, the overwhelming majority of Malaysian voters are Malay voters, and thirdly, the overwhelming majority of parliamentary and state assembly constituencies in the country are Malay voter-majority constituencies,” he said.
There is the critical democratic factor which will ensure that the Malays will not lose their rights and become strangers in their own land as warned by Umno leaders, he added.
“I have never accused Umno leaders of being anti-Chinese, anti-Indian, anti-Buddhism, anti-Christianity or anti-Hinduism and in post-14GE, Umno leaders and Umno propaganda apparatus should stop making wild and false allegations that DAP and I are anti-Malay and anti-Islam,” Lim said.
