Wedding bells expected to ring before the end of the year.

Zairil Khir Johari announced his engagement to Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud today.

Taking to Facebook, the Penang DAP vice-chairman and Bukit Bendera MP said that he was glad to have the support those dearest to him to celebrate his engagement in Ipoh.

“They say when one door closes, another one opens. And so it has been since my marriage was dissolved last year. Such is life, and we keep moving forward.

“I am truly happy to have found in Dyana someone whom I know will make a compatible and supportive partner in life. More importantly, Dyana is loved dearly by all in my family, especially my two children. Looking forward to new beginnings,” he said in the post today.

Zairil is also DAP national assistant publicity secretary while Dyana Sofya is a DAP Socialist Youth national executive committee member.

Dyana was DAP’s candidate in the Teluk Intan by-election on May 31, 2014, up against Barisan Nasional’s Mah Siew Keong in a straight fight. However, she lost narrowly after the Gerakan president took the parliamentary seat with a 238-vote majority.

The couple’s engagement was held at the Kinta Riverfront Hotel in Ipoh. The private ceremony was attended by the couple’s friends and family, amid heavy press presence.

Speaking to the press briefly, Zairil said the couple were expected to get married before the end of this year.

“We are very happy and both of our families are very happy as well. We’re also really grateful to everyone who came to today’s ceremony,” Zairil said.

Asked when the marriage ceremony would be held, Zairil only said: “Probably the end of the year, that’s all I’ll say.”

There had been speculation that the two were getting engaged.

The couple’s relationship and alleged affair had been under public scrutiny since last April, following leaked photos and videos of the two together going viral.

In each instance, both had denied it was them, deriding the allegations as gutter politics.
