RapidKL uses Annabelle to ‘scare’ commuters into behaving.
After hitting out last week at the poor etiquette among commuters using their trains, RapidKL has now taken a creative approach to ‘scare’ commuters into behaving, receiving praises for its efforts.
It is employing the use of Annabelle, the infamous haunted doll, to remind all its users on the need to be courteous and considerate. The Rageddy Ann doll is allegedly demented and was the inspiration for the horror films Annabelle in 2014 and its sequel Annebelle: Creation this year.
In a post on Facebook, Annabelle could be seen sitting on a turnstile at an MRT gate entrance and also taking a ride on the MRT herself.
The pictures came with the caption: “Dear valued customers, lately we’ve been receiving surprise visits from Annabelle. Mind your manners while you are on our trains or…she will haunt you FOREVER.”
It was also captioned with hashtags #citizenwithmannerswanted and #forabetterfuture.
A RapidKL’s spokesman said the purpose of the witty campaign was to promote civic awareness among the public.
“It is heartening (for us) to receive such feedback from the public and we believe this has generated so much awareness.
“We hope that the public’s social etiquette will be improved, not only when using the public transportation but also when they use any public facilities,” the spokesman told the New Straits Times.
The post uploaded on Aug 1 has now received more than 25,000 reactions on Facebook with close to 10,000 shares.
Netizens have voiced their support towards Rapid KL’s tongue-in-cheek approach to educating the public on social etiquettes when using the public transportation.
Some even called on the company to give a raise to the admin of its social media platform.
“Whoever is handling the rapidKL social media platform, he/she deserves a raise,” said Facebook user, Thahirah Jamaludin.
“Admin, you are so entertaining. I rarely follow corporate page like yours. But this one had won my heart. Your sarcasm is acceptable. Well done,” commented Farhanim Zainal.
Stacey Wong said: “Admin can I give u thousand of like? hahahah u always made my day!!!”
“Genius move RapidKL,” said Hanisa Hj Hassan.
Jonathan Seevaratnam said: “Kudos to the thespian manning this social media page. You have indeed given us mirth in moments when Malaysians need it most. Your witty tongue-in-cheek posts are the order-of-the-day!”
“This is one of the way that might attract attention among the public transport users. Keep it up, admin. Humorous, but full of message at the same time,” commented Alif Ikhwan.
However, Ariena Ariff said: “Rapid KL, this is soooo not funny! Some people like me are scared of dolls!” while Alina Tasha jokingly suggested that Annabelle herself was likely the admin.
