Fresh from his release by police at about 7.30pm on Saturday, a day before his remand was set to expire, Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Md Yunos revealed his next stunt.

Continuing his crusade against beer fests in Selangor, he is now planning to hold an “ice-cream eating” protest on Wednesday, again at the state secretariat building (SUK).

“The next protest that I will lead is non-violent. We will protest at the SUK by eating ice-cream. Nothing is going to stop us.

“Although I was handcuffed and locked up because of the previous protest, it has done little to hinder me from opposing any beer festival in Selangor.

“That is my job as the chairman of the Malaysian NGOs Coalition. I am unperturbed by the episode,” Jamal was quoted as saying by the New Straits Times.

Glad to have been released along with seven others, Jamal said the early release was because police had completed their investigations.

He said that the beer bottle-smashing stunt was meant to show that drinking alcohol was a bad habit, adding that the protest was also a message to the state government to stop giving approval for alcohol-related events.
