By opening up, Putrajaya would be able to right the wrongs.

It is not wrong for newly-minted ministers to expose the wrongdoings of the previous administration, says DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang.

“There is a need to build a ‘new Malaysia’ and a need to undo all the wrongs of the past,” he told a press conference on Wednesday (June 20).

“As a matter of principle, I think we should bring to the public’s attention all the wrongs, scandals and corrupt practices of the past,” he added.

Kit Siang said that ministers who are aware of past wrongs should expose them to avoid being questioned later about why they failed to do so.

Kit Siang also noted that he has been exposing alleged corrupt practices and wrongs as an MP for the last 32 years, and cited recent exposés by the Education Minister and Health Minister as examples where past wrongs were brought to the attention of the public.

He added such revelations would also help Malaysians have zero tolerance towards corruption.

He was asked to comment on the recent exposès by Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng, his son, with regards to the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) scandal.

Kit Siang, however, stressed that his response to the question was a general one and not specifically on the 1MDB exposès by the Finance Minister.

On Tuesday, PKR adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the Finance Minister has to strike a balance between exposing scandals and inspiring confidence among investors.

Anwar said that the minister should leave exposés to others, including the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

In response to this, Guan Eng clarified that his actions in revealing the financial scandals from the previous administration were done on the instructions of Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. – The Star
