PKR vice-president and Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar says she is not interested in a ministerial position even in the event of a Cabinet reshuffle after her father Anwar Ibrahim takes over as prime minister.

“That (a Cabinet post) is a wonderful thing, but I’m very happy to serve Permatang Pauh, and to be a mother to my two lovely children and a loving citizen of my country,” she told Bernama yesterday.

Nurul said her biggest lesson throughout PKR’s 20-year struggle was that it was possible to serve without holding a government position.

“I feel that what I have learned during these years is that you can contribute no matter who you are, whether you are a sweeper on the street or a high-level executive.

“It would be a beautiful world if we kept sight of protecting the reform agenda. That’s why I’m here and I’m more than happy.

“As I said, I’m an engineering degree holder. I’m not interested in any (Cabinet) position. I hope all the rest of the talented people will perform for our Cabinet to fulfil our pledges,” she said.

Anwar, who is the PKR president-elect, is slated to take over from Dr Mahathir Mohamad as prime minister after two years, as agreed on by the Pakatan Harapan coalition.
