Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister Hannah Yeoh has slammed Umno secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa for saying that the by-elections in Sungai Kandis and Balakong were gifts from God.
In her Twitter account, Yeoh wrote: “Such a wicked proposition. Evil. God is love.”
Earlier today, Annuar told about 1,000 Selangor Umno members working for the Sungai Kandis by-election that God was testing Selangor.
“Do you know why we are having this by-election?” Annuar Musa asked the crowd at the election centre on Jalan Siswi Kanan.
“Because god wants to test Selangor. Before this (Sg Kandis) has begun its campaign, there will be another one in Balakong. Maybe God will decide to have more by-elections.
“We don’t know where the next one will be. Maybe its Langkawi or maybe it’s Bera. Let’s just hope it’s not in Ketereh,” the Ketereh MP said.
Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is the Langkawi MP while Umno vice-president Ismail Sabri is Bera’s MP.
Ismail was seated on the stage along with deputy president Mohamad Hassan and Sg Kandis candidate Lokman Noor Adam.
The Sg Kandis state seat fell vacant after Shuhaimie Shafiei died on July 2 from cancer while a day before nomination for Sg Kandis, Balakong assemblyman Eddie Ng died from a car accident on July 19.
Mohamad also predicted more by-elections ahead.
“I think there’s at least one more in Selangor,” said the former Negri Sembilan menteri besar.
“Let’s use these by-elections as a training ground before GE15.”
