Anwar cautioned on hiring turncoats who previously slandered Pakatan Harapan.

Penang PKR Youth leaders are up in arms over a man alleged to be a Barisan Nasional (BN) propagandist who is now seen as close to the party’s de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim.

State PKR Youth information chief Mohd Ikhwan Nasser said Mohd Eddy Casmady was widely featured in anti-Pakatan Harapan (PH) videos during the general election and had gone on a tirade against PH for many years.

Ikhwan said Eddy, however, was spotted close to Anwar during his visit to Cherok Tok Kun in Bukit Mertajam here on Friday.

“I randomly took photos of Anwar when he visited Cherok Tok Kun. When I uploaded the pictures onto Facebook, hundreds of people started commenting, saying that Eddy was a BN man.

“To our shock, some of the netizens showed videos of him condemning PH and DAP in a campaign video for BN during the election.

“We have learnt Eddy was part of former Umno minister Ismail Sabri’s media team,” Ikhwan said in a press conference at Komtar Walk today.

Checks by FMT showed Eddy was credited as the Briged Kesatria Muda deputy chief in his videos. It is a group closely aligned with Umno.

Eddy gained infamy in 2016 when he spoke out against electronic dance music festivals in Selangor, claiming they were “booze fests” and would corrupt the Malays.

He reportedly vowed to “cut his finger” if he was wrong in saying that 90% of the audience at such events would be Malays aged between 18 and 30 years.

“These festivals are a subtle way to subvert our youth,” he was quoted as saying on Facebook.

His post was reproduced by says.com, which wrote an article on him in 2016.

In light of this, Ikhwan said the PKR leadership should explain why Eddy had been spotted with Anwar.

“Somebody asked Eddy why he was with Anwar. Eddy told them he was part of Anwar’s team. That is not likely, because Anwar does not have a media team at the moment.

“We feel that he could have been there to mess up the party,” he said.

Meanwhile, state PKR acting youth chief Khairil Anuar Kamarudin said Anwar, as the party’s leader, should be careful when hiring associates.

Khairil said it was best if Anwar ran through the party’s central political bureau to weed out unwanted characters.

“Let us not repeat the mistakes and the black moments of 1998 and 2008 from the diaries of PKR fighters,” he said, referring to Anwar’s previous sodomy convictions which he had denounced as politically motivated. – FMT
