Police have initiated an investigation into an incident where a ‘Datuk’ was seen berating and attacking a carpark attendant in a viral video recently.
Brickfields district police chief ACP Ruslan Khalid said the victim, 31, had refused to raise the boom gate because the ‘Datuk’ did not pay the RM3 parking fees.
“The suspect, who drove a Range Rover, then came to scold and hit the victim in the 9.20am incident on Sept 18.
“The victim, who suffered minor bruises, lodged a police report the following day,” he said.
Ruslan said the police have identified the ‘Datuk’ and the case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.
According to the social media post with a link to the 1.18-minute video, the incident happened at a carpark office at a five-star hotel in Kuala Lumpur.
“The staff had to go through such treatment from this guy just because he thinks he is a Datuk or VIP.
“I am sure a police report must have been made but no action has been taken to date. Please viral this so the culprit is brought to justice,” the post read.
The man in the video appeared aggravated with the carpark attendant, gesturing menacingly before entering the booth, where he then pushed a chair and attacked the man.
Meanwhile, a viral picture has been circulating showing the two men involved in the incident shaking hands after what appears to be a settlement.
The Sun reported that despite the viral picture, investigations in the case will proceed.
