Malaysia has reported 710 new cases of Covid-19 in 24 hours up to noon today, as well as 10 deaths, the highest number of fatalities reported in a single day since the start of the pandemic.
All but one of the new cases are local transmissions.
In a tweet, Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the 710 new cases bring the total number of infections in the country to 24,514.
Sabah continues to record the highest number of new infections with 528 cases or 74.4 percent, as well as the highest death rate with nine out of the 10 deaths.
The remaining death case was reported in Kedah. The latest death count is at 214 cases or 0.9 percent of all recorded cases.
According to the Health Ministry, 90 cases are currently in intensive care, with 28 requiring breathing assistance.
Dr Noor Hisham said there were 467 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 15,884.
