A total of 78 new Covid-19 positive cases were recorded today, bringing the cumulative number of cases in the country to 7,137, with 1,163 active infectivity cases.
Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said of the 78 new cases, 25 were imported cases and 53 were local infections.
“Of the 53 local infections, 40 involve non-Malaysians with 25 of them detected at the Immigration Depot in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur,” he told a daily media conference on Covid-19 today.
He said there were 63 recoveries today, bringing the total of those who have recovered and discharged from hospital to 5,859 cases (82.1 percent).
One death was reported today, bringing the cumulative number of death due to Covid-19 in the country to 115 or 1.61 percent of the total cases, he added.
“The 115th death case involved a 65-year-old local man with diabetes, hypertension and kidney problem.
“He was treated at the Sungai Buloh Hospital on April 3 and pronounced dead on May 21 at 2.58 pm,” he added.
Dr Noor Hisham said to date, nine Covid-19 positive cases were being treated at the ICU, with five in need of respiratory assistance.
