A Datuk Seri surrendered himself to police over the alleged assault of a man and his girlfriend at a bar in Klang on Jul 31.

A couple claimed they were assaulted by a group of people, including a Datuk Seri, for being too noisy when they were playing card games at a bar in Klang.

In the incident, Thoo Kang Wei, 33, and Chong Sook Kuan, 31, claimed that despite apologising several times, the assailants hurled abuses and threw glasses at them, resulting in injuries to them.

Most of the injuries were cuts on the face and head from flying shards of glasses, with Thoo requiring 60 stitches.

The Klang magistrate court today granted a three-day remand for the Datuk Seri and his friend for the police to facilitate investigations.

Police said they are questioning the Datuk Seri to find out who else was involved in the incident.

The Datuk Seri’s lawyer, Toh Harnniann, said that his client turned himself in on Tuesday as he wishes to use the legal system to clear his name.

“Eventually his innocence will be proven.

“I wish to add that the version given by the victims is not the whole truth,” Toh said.

He declined to comment further on the case as it is still under police investigations.

The Datuk Seri’s friend was arrested in the wee hours of Wednesday.
