Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Mohamed Hanipa Maidin suffered from a fainting spell while attending the department ‘s monthly gathering at Dataran Perdana in Putrajaya.
This caused the Sepang MP to fall from the half-a-metre-high temporary stage while Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was addressing the crowd at about 8.39am.
Dr Mahathir stopped his speech for several minutes while Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail came down from stage to check on Hanipa.
Those present were shocked and staff on duty immediately attended to the unconscious deputy minister who had taken his oath of office last week.
A doctor on standby provided Hanipa with medical attention before he was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital for further medical treatment.
Hanipa, 50, had suffered a stroke and underwent surgery for haemorrhaging in the brain in 2016 after collapsing in the middle of a Dewan Rakyat debate.
He was out of action for six months, returning to Parliament in October that year.
