Controversial celebrity Azwan Ali has vowed to stand against his brother, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, wherever the latter decides to contest in the 14th General Election (GE14).
Azwan – who is known as Diva AA, said he planned to contest as an independent candidate specifically to force his brother’s defeat, the New Straits Times reported.
“It does not matter whether he stands in a parliamentary or state seat…I will run against him anywhere to destroy his political career.
“People can say whatever they want but I want to expose him (Azmin) for what he is…I don’t want the Selangor people to continue to be fooled,” he said, adding he knew many secrets about his brother.
The former television personality said he had been urged by many of his supporters to contest against his brother, who is PKR deputy president and Selangor caretaker Menteri Besar.
Azwan said Selangor would be in for a “major disaster” if Azmin was re-elected to govern the state.
On how he planned to finance his campaign, Azwan said he did not want to boast but he had enough money to do so.
“It does not matter even if I lose badly…even if I lose the deposit, I would consider it as a donation to the Election Commission.
“I will not have any regrets,” he said.
Azwan is the youngest of the Ali siblings.
The estranged relationship between the two siblings is widely known.
Azwan has been resoundingly condemning his brother all this while. In recent months, he also lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) against Azmin, alleging abuse of power and corrupt practices.
Azmin is the incumbent Gombak member of parliament and Bukit Antarabangsa state assemblyman since 2008.
