Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has expressed regret over calling the super drone project a flying car, reiterating that the two-man flying vehicle was always meant to be a drone.
He defended the project, however, after an Amanah delegate criticised the “flying car” project, saying it was “one of the most useless programmes” undertaken by the government.
“It is actually a drone and the drone is big, it can ferry people. If you want to go from one place to another, they can take the drone. No roads required,” he told reporters at an event in Langkawi.
Pahang Amanah member Mohd Fadzil Mohd Ramly had said PH leaders were making unneeded changes that made the people angry with the government, and that he felt embarrassed when having to defend the project to the people.
Mahathir said the people did not need to use the drone if they did not want to, adding that they were “not forced”.
“It is just an idea. If the people don’t like the idea, then they don’t need to receive it,” he said.
Deep state, Negaraku in Mandarin
Separately, Mahathir said he will seek information on allegations of the existence of a deep state trying to sabotage the administration of the Pakatan Harapan government among civil servants.
“I don’t know if it is taking place but if a hidden state exists, I think we can contain it, no problem,” Bernama quoted him as saying.
“Prior to this, there were a lot of problems when I was prime minister, but we could continue to administer. I will deal with it, I will view and study it first,” he said.
Mahathir also said the ‘Negaraku’ could only be sung in the national language.
“We cannot sing (Negaraku) in other languages. What is written in the books is to show the meaning so that non-Malays understand the wording,” he said.
He was commenting on the video showing pupils of a school in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, singing the ‘Negaraku’ in Mandarin. – FMT
