Philippine President Rodrigo is expected to meet Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad next week.
This follows a phone conversation held between the two Southeast Asian leaders today.
Among the issues expected to be discussed will be problems with Islamic State (IS) and insurgency, as well as bilateral ties between the two nations.
In a tweet, Duterte’s spokesman Harry Roque quoted the president as saying: “(I) had a telephone talk with (Dr) Mahathir before Cabinet meeting. He wants to talk about insurgency and (IS). We will be there (in Malaysia on) July 16. After boxing, will talk with Mahathir.”
Duterte was talking about the WBA welterweight title fight between the Philippine’s Manny Pacquiao and Lucas Matthysse of Argentina.
Duterte’s visit to Malaysia is expected to be a private one, and not an official or working visit. – NST
