Actor and director Datuk Farid Kamil Zahari was charged at the Petaling Jaya magistrate’s court yesterday with self-administering the drug THC (Tetraydrocannabol), the main mind-altering ingredient found in cannabis.
The offence was committed at the Petaling Jaya District Police Headquarters around 4.30pm on Jan 11.
The 37-year-old pleaded not guilty to the charge which carries a maximum jail sentence of two years or an RM5,000 fine upon conviction.
He was granted bail at RM3,000 and ordered to surrender his passport.
The court set the case for second mention on March 5.
Speaking to reporters outside the court complex, he denied rumours that his marriage was on the rocks.
“There’s nothing unusual about my relationship with my wife.
“I’m glad that I have my family, my wife and my children who are always praying for my safety,” he said.
Asked if he had met his children, he said yes as they were all staying in the same house.
As for the treatment he was said to be undergoing, Farid said that it was going on fine.
On Wednesday, he uploaded a photo on his Instagram account of him holding a police report, which is believed to be linked to a domestic matter involving his 27-year-old actress wife, Datin Diana Danielle.
It was later reported that Farid had requested that access be granted to his younger brother, Dr Anis Anwar Zahari, to enter his residence at Casa Tropicana, Damansara, to collect his belongings there.
At the time the police report was made, Farid’s two children, Muhammad and Aurora, were allegedly in his care.
It was said that he must have made the report as a protective measure in order to safeguard his actions.
Farid made headlines for slapping a police officer and kicking two other civilians at the Kota Damansara Traffic Police Station on Jan 11.
He was released on bail on Jan 17 after pleading not guilty to four charges, which included criminal assault of a public servant and another count for disorderly conduct.
