Actor Datuk Farid Kamil seems to be in more than a spot of trouble, what with allegations of assault and drug usage as well as hints of family woes.

Farid has been remanded for four days after allegedly slapping a policeman and kicking a civilian at the Kota Damansara police station. Magistrate Zaki Asyraf Zubir issued the order under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code today.

Farid, 37, who was clad in purple lock-up attire, was brought to the Petaling Jaya courthouse at 10.22am in a police truck.

The handcuffed actor was hardly camera shy as dozens of journalists’ lenses were trained on him when he was ushered into the courtroom.

Farid’s lawyer Athari Bahardin said his client was remanded to assist in investigations under Section 353 of the Penal Code for criminal assault of a public servant and Section 323 of the same Code together with Section 90 of the Police Act for disorderly conduct and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Farid was detained yesterday after he allegedly attacked the cop and a member of the public in a fit of rage after reading a text message on his phone.

According to his brother Fadzil Zahari, Farid’s recent strange behaviour could be attributed to Acute Stress Disorder (ASD).

He claimed that family problems have taken their toll on his brother’s mental health, the New Straits Times reported.

“He is very secretive and does not share his problem with us. We were shocked by this incident.

“But (Farid) told me three days ago that he had not seen his children in days,” fadzil was quoted saying.

He added that he has been trying to contact Farid’s wife, A-list actress Diana Danielle, but to no avail.

Diana and her children were not present during the court proceeding.

Meanwhile, Farid’s younger brother Anis Anwar Zahari said the family intends to send Farid for a medical check-up.

“We will send Farid for a physiological evaluation and will give him our full moral support,” he was quoted saying.

In an interview with The New Straits Times today, Diana, 26, denied the allegation that her husband is distressed because he has not been allowed to see his two children.

“Since I have to go to work, I left my children under my mother’s care.

“My mother’s house is only one floor below from our unit, in the same condominium building. He could have easily gone to see the kids if he had wanted to,” Diana told the daily.

She added that she had never left any instruction to prohibit Farid from seeing the kids.

Speaking to reporters today, Selangor police chief Datuk Mazlan Mansor advised public figures, especially those carrying titles, to conduct themselves in a manner that befits their status.

“This is not the first time whereby persons like the arrested suspect has behaved in an inappropriate manner.

“That too in a police station. I would like to remind the public that under Section 90 of the Police Act 1967, the police may arrest anyone who behaves inappropriately within the police station without the need for a warrant,” he said.

According to Mazlan, the incident had occurred after a member of the public stumbled upon the actor who was shirtless at an area near the Tropicana City Mall, Petaling Jaya.

“The suspect said he had been involved in a road accident. The member of the public subsequently took him to the Kota Damansara traffic police counter.

“There he displayed reckless and unstable behaviour prior to hitting a traffic policeman and kicking two members of the public when asked to describe the accident he had claimed to be involved in,” he said.

Mazlan added that initial investigations revealed that the suspect was under the influence of drugs.

“At present, we are looking to investigate the case thoroughly and hope to charge him for several offences available under the law,” he added.
