With Dr Wan Azizah already named as the Deputy Prime Minister, the other three top Pakatan leaders fill the first three ministerial posts.
Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today unveiled the first three candidates for his Cabinet line-up, which comprises Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) top leaders.
DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng has been appointed finance minister; which means PH will probably have to pick another chief minister in Penang – likely to be Chow Kon Yeow.
Amanah president Mohamad Sabu has been appointed defence minister; while Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has been made home minister.
Mahathir has also appointed a Council of Elders comprising eminent persons who will serve as advisors to the government.
He listed the former finance minister Daim Zainuddin, former Bank Negara governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz, former Petronas president Hasan Merican, tycoon Robert Kuok, and economist Jomo Kwame Sundaram as members of the council.
