Police confident they will arrest Jamal soon.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun today said police were confident that Red Shirts leader Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos was in Indonesia despite the Sungai Besar Umno division chief’s claim that he was still in the country.

Police believe that Jamal used a hidden route to get out of the country.

Fuzi said that this was because there was no record of Jamal leaving legally.

“We believed he used a hidden route and that he is in Indonesia. I have also personally requested our counterparts in Indonesia to help track him down and they have agreed,” he said at a press conference on Thursday (June 7).

The top cop said that police have an idea of where Jamal could be hiding and they are doing everything possible to locate him.

He also said they were certain that Jamal, who is wanted for various offences, would be arrested soon.

In several taunting audio and video recordings posted through social media recently, Jamal claimed the police were wasting their time and effort to enlist Interpol’s aid to bring him to face the law as he was in Malaysia and would return to face the law when he was ready.

He had also accused the government of victimising him and claimed he feared for his safety.

Meanwhile, Jamal may have announced his intention to run as the party’s new youth chief, but his nomination does not seem to have been recognised by his party.

Federal Territories Umno Youth chief Razlan Rafii, who organised an event in Wangsa Maju, Kuala Lumpur last night, to introduce youth candidates for the upcoming party elections said no nomination form was received from Jamal.

“We did not receive any nomination form from him,” shrugged Razlan.

During the event, Jamal was not present nor was his name mentioned when the category of Umno Youth chief was announced.

The three contenders mentioned were Paya Besar MP Mohd Shahar Abdullah, former deputy minister and senator Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki and incumbent deputy Youth chief Khairul Azwan Harun.

Jamal previously took to Facebook to announce his intention to lead the party’s youth wing but did not explicitly state if he had submitted his nomination form.
