Senior Minister for Security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said this afternoon that 50% of Malaysians who were supposed to quarantine themselves at home had flouted the SOPs set by the government.
Ismail said this was revealed to him in a report by the health ministry.
“This is a huge number. This is why the government decided not to continue with the home quarantine, starting tomorrow, for Malaysians and foreigners,” he said at a press conference.
On Tuesday, Ismail had announced the end of home quarantine for those returning to the country as they will now be housed at quarantine centres identified by the government.
The government, Ismail said, viewed such violations seriously as it had led to family members and the public being infected.
He went on to say that police will be taking action against such parties, including slapping them with a RM1,000 fine or jail term up to six months. – FMT
