It was the hottest day of the year in Hong Kong, with the temperature a sweltering 34.4 degrees Celsius, and cool as a cucumber, a man took a ride on the MTR stark naked.

A 20-year-old man created a stir on Wednesday evening when he waited for a train on a platform and went on a ride through six stations with no clothes on and just wearing a pair of foam clogs.

The man drew much attention as it was the evening rush hour and the station, as well as train, was packed with commuters.

The young man appeared to be calm and walking at a normal pace when he was first spotted near Hankow Road in touristy Tsim Sha Tsui.

Carrying a mobile phone and a wallet, he went down to the MTR station and waited for a train to cross the harbour at about 7pm.

Passengers immediately alerted subway staff.

MTR employees at Tsim Sha Tsui station saw the man boarding a train bound for Central.

The railway control centre informed the station crew one stop away, at Admiralty station, the South China Morning Post cited an MTR spokesman saying.

MTR staff at Admiralty followed the man into a Chai Wan-bound train, while the centre called the police.

In a video that has gone viral, the man is seen on his phone and at times putting on earphones.

He is heard posing questions to an MTR employee trailing him on the ride.

“I’ll get off at Hang Hau station…will you let me take a ride?” the man in the buff said.

At North Point station, six stations from Tsim Sha Tsui, he exited the train and was approached by police and uniformed MTR employees.

He was arrested and taken to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital in Chai Wan for an examination.

A police source said the man became agitated when confronted by the officers and was said to have given incoherent responses.

A witness who had seen the man on Hankow Road told reporters he had acted normally and confidently, and not in the least disturbed by passersby gawking at him and taking photos of him.

The witness added that he heard the man tell a security guard he was living in his own “game world” and asked the guard to leave him alone before walking off.

Police revealed the man had mental health issues.
