Two people were detained when they surrendered to the police at about 1.40pm on Sunday over an incident that took on Saturday where DAP’s Liew Chin Tong was harassed by a group of traders at the Ramadan bazaar in Kluang.

Police are investigating the incident for causing hurt and for criminal intimidation.

On his Facebook page, Liew shared a five-minute video of the fiasco which showed people yelling at him and his staff, telling them to leave. They were at the bazaar to distribute dates.

It was reported that Liew was hit on the forehead, causing his spectacles to fall, while one of his staff was roughed up during the scuffle.

Liew has lodged a report at the Kluang police station. Two other reports were lodged by others in the party.

Meanwhile, Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin described the action by some people at the bazaar on the Kluang MP as unnecessary.

Khairy said such action has to be condemned, especially during Ramadan.

“It is unnecessary for us to act like this even though we have differing political views,” he said on Twitter on Sunday.
