An RM370k heist in Kajang and a haul of six jewellery trays in Seremban.

Hallmarks of 3 jewellery heists this week:

  • Robbers wore full-face helmets
  • Armed with sledgehammers to smash glass showcases
  • Robbery took under 3 minutes
  • Escaped on motorcycles

In the first robbery yesterday, three men took only two minutes to grab and escape with three trays of jewellery from a goldsmith’s shop at a hypermarket in Taman Bangi Avenue, Kajang.

In the 11.22am incident, three robbers wearing full-face helmets used sledgehammers to break open jewellery cases in the shop.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof said a female worker was on duty at the time.

“The robbers escaped with three trays filled with gold jewellery worth RM370,000. The perpetrators escaped on two motorcycles,” he said.

The case has been classified under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for gang robbery.

Ahmad Dzaffir said police are also investigating the possibility that the incident was connected to a previous robbery.

In a similar robbery at Leisure Mall in Taman Segar, Cheras, on Sunday, robbers stole jewellery worth RM1.5 million from Poh Kong goldsmith shop.

The second jewellery heist yesterday took place about eight hours later where eight gunmen stormed into Wah Chan goldsmith shop at Palm Mall shopping mall in Kemayan Square, Seremban, and carted away six trays of jewellery, all within three minutes.

In the 8pm incident last night, the suspects, who were all wearing full-face helmets barged into the premises and smashed the glass display panels before sweeping up the jewellery.

A witness, who refused to be named, said the robbers fled with six trays of jewellery.

“There were no customers on the premises at that time. The suspects took about three minutes before they made off on their motorcycles,” he said.

The premises are located on the ground floor near the entrance of the mall.

It is learnt that one of the suspects left a shotgun not far from the premises before they fled the scene.
