Police have arrested two men over the death threats against Seri Delima assemblyman Syerleena Abdul Rashid.
One man was detained in Kelantan while the other was arrested in, Selangor.
Penang police chief Comm Datuk Seri A Thaiveegan said the duo, aged 27 and 48, were arrested late Friday (July 20) evening to assist in the investigation into the case.
Syerleena made a police report on July 10 after receiving a death threat earlier at her service centre in Jalan Delima.
A note that read “Death awaits you!” written in red ink was found in the mailbox at the centre.
On Saturday, Syerleena lodged a police report over a Facebook posting, which labelled her a traitor to Islam and claimed there would be no sin in causing her death.
She also lodged another police report over Facebook posts claiming she would “attack Islamic institutions, especially Jakim, for the sake of DAP”.
Syerleena said this was an “old, slanderous” allegation that had been making its rounds on social media again after it was used to smear her in the recent general election.
George Town OCPD Asst Comm Anuar Omar had said they were investigating the case under Section 507 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation by anonymous communication.
