The government will focus on addressing problems and issues facing the country, especially the impact of the covid-19 epidemic on the economy, rather than on the transition of power, said Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

She said the matter of the handing over of the prime minister’s post was agreed upon at the Pakatan Harapan (PH) presidential council meeting last night.

“We govern the country…to rectify and improve as much as we can. We are now facing the covid-19 cluster and how we are going to handle it because the spread of the virus has a negative effect on the country’s economy.

“So, we will all focus on the impact of covid-19 on the country. The issue of power transition had been agreed on last night and it is set (to take place) after Apec,” she told reporters after flagging-off participants in the Kayuhan Kasih Mesra Fun Ride with the DPM, in Kuala Lumpur, today.

The deputy prime minister said this when asked on the decision the PH presidential council reached last night that the handover of power from Dr Mahathir Mohamad to PKR president Anwar Ibrahim would take after the Apec 2020 summit in November and that Dr Mahathir himself would decide when he would step down.

Earlier, Dr Wan Azizah, who is the Pandan MP, joined 500 participants in the fun ride organised by the Ampang Community Cycling Club.
