PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail will contest a seat in the Klang Valley while her daughter Nurul Izzah Anwar is now going to the PKR stronghold of Permatang Pauh.

This was confirmed by party secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution, The Star reported.

He said there were several “safe” seats for Nurul Izzah, including the Pandan parliamentary constituency which was held by Rafizi Ramli.

Saifuddin also said the party had made it clear the candidate for Permatang Pauh should be from Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s family as the seat was a PKR fortress.

Nurul Izzah is the incumbent Lembah Pantai MP, but PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil is expected to contest the seat.

Saifuddin said he would contest the Kulim-Bandar Baharu parliamentary seat in Kedah and a state seat in Penang.

He lost the parliamentary seat to Datuk Abdul Aziz Sheikh Fadzir of Barisan Nasional by 1,871 votes in GE13.

“I am confident of doing better as the majority I lost was not that high,” Saifuddin was quoted saying.

Appointed strategic adviser to Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng last year, Saifuddin reportedly declined to comment which state seat in Penang he would be contesting, saying it would be known in a few days.

It could be the Pantai Jerejak seat which was held by Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon.

There is talk that he would be appointed Deputy Chief Minister I if he wins the seat.

Reportedly, PKR sources said Mohd Rashid could be fielded in a state seat in Johor, but he had indicated he was not keen to contest in Johor although his hometown was Muar.
