Controversial Muslim preacher Dr Zakir Naik spent several hours being questioned at the police headquarters in Bukit Aman.

The Indian-born preacher is believed to have reached Bukit Aman before 3pm which was when members of the media arrived.

After several hours of waiting, Zakir Naik finally emerged from the station at approximately 8.15pm and was driven off, accompanied by three other persons.

It is believed that it was Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Prosecution/Law (D5) which took his statement.

It is also understood that two Investigation Papers have been opened against Zakir Naik, one on his allegedly anti-Indian comments, another on his allegedly anti-Chinese remarks.

However, there is no official statement from the police regarding the matter.

Yesterday, Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin announced that police will be calling in educationist group Dong Zong, tycoon Koon Yew Yin, and preacher Zakir Naik in for questioning.

Muhyiddin said several others have already been questioned and are under police observation, and that further action will be taken, including charges under Section 504 of the Penal Code if there is sufficient evidence.

Section 504 covers insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace, and is punishable with up to two years’ jail, a fine, or both.

According to CID director Huzir Mohamed, up to 115 police reports have been lodged against Zakir in relation to his remarks during a speech in Kelantan last week, while six reports have been so far against Dong Zong. – Malaysiakini
