For those who criticise or take our public hospitals for granted, this emotional post by the grateful son of a patient will reveal what their services mean to those who can’t afford private medical centres.
- RM11,000+ bill for cancer radiotherapy
- Reduced to next to nothing!
- Excellent value for RM1 at public hospitals
A post shared by Hospital Kuala Lumpur doctor Alzamani Mohammad Idrose from Razali Raihayu’s Facebook page has just gone viral.
In the post, Razali recounted his experience at the hospital when he was presented with an RM11,000+ bill for his late father’s cancer radiotherapy. He said he only had RM100, with nothing in the bank, and his heart sank when he saw the bill.
He was asked to proceed to another counter where another long bill was printed out, with the charges of several treatments changed to zero upon verification of his father’s Malaysian nationality. The final bill came to only RM31.80!
According to The Star, Alzamani explained that for the RM1 patients pay at the emergency department of public hospitals, they typically get consultation (worth RM200), X-ray (RM100), blood tests (RM150), ultrasound, if required (RM150), CT scan, if required (RM500) and medication (RM150).
It was good that a relieved and thankful Razali chose to share his experience so that more Malaysians will be reminded how blessed we are for the affordable healthcare services provided by public hospitals – something many of us take for granted or look down on.
