Retired top cop Datuk Seri Amar Singh has denied allegations that his girlfriend was present during a raid at Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s home in May 2018 and took one of the bags seized.
The former Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director said he would lodge a police report against controversial blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin (RPK) after the latter made the allegation on his Malaysia Today’s portal.
Describing the raid as the biggest raid in the history of Royal Malaysia Police, Amar said it was conducted in full compliance with the strictest rules applicable.
“Detailed records were made of what was recovered. No such (civilian) lady was present nor anything removed as alleged.
“It is important to note that the raid was conducted by a team comprising several deputy directors and assistant directors of the police, very senior police officers, of which, some later became directors and state police chiefs,” he said in a statement on Friday (Aug 12).
About 70 police personnel members and officers from several departments were involved in the raid, including from CCID, Special Action Unit (UTK), CID and the Traffic department, Amar said.
“There is just no way anything can go through this team without anyone noticing. Moreover, this team just met on the day of the raid.
“There is therefore no possibility of any conspiracy to cover up. I had purposely comprised all my teams from different elements so as to prevent future false allegations by mercenaries like RPK about the raid,” he added.
Amar said the raiding process was also photographed and recorded on video from the beginning to the end of the raid by an independent team from CID.
These photographs and videos were still in the safekeeping of the CID,” he said.
Amar said there was no way a civilian could have avoided the cameras and videos without anyone realising, unless this person was invisible.
“Furthermore, the building where the raid was conducted has more than 100 CCTV cameras and more than 50 reporters were waiting in the lobby, the only exit out of the building at the time.
“None of the reporters saw a civilian lady walking out from the raid, that too with a large suitcase as alleged,” he said.
Amar said RPK’s allegations were clearly false.
“I will lodge a police report against RPK over these false allegations.
“I have also been informed by the senior officers who were present during the raid that they too will lodge police reports against RPK,” he said.
Amar also denied he has migrated to Canada.
“I am still here in Malaysia and will be here in my country till I die. I can’t say the same for him.
“If one has done one’s duty with integrity there is certainly nothing to worry about,” he said.
Amar also challenged RPK to return to Malaysia and present what he has.
“RPK only can throw stones from afar and hide behind the skirts of extraterritorial immunity.
“Have the guts to come to Malaysia and state what you have,” he said.
Amar, who was the central figure heading police investigations into the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) led police raids on premises linked to Najib after Barisan Nasional lost the general election in May, 2018. – The Star
