Jho Low’s four associates suspected to be in the same countries as him.
2.07pm: Najib enters the court and takes a seat in the front row of the public gallery to await the start of proceedings.
2.15pm: Najib enters the dock as proceedings begin.
2.19pm: Trial commences with MACC investigating officer Rosli Husain taking the stand. He is identifying other MACC officers who assisted in the SRC International probe.
Former SRC International CEO Nik Faisal Ariff Kamil left the country two days before polling day for Malaysia’s 14th general election last year, the court hears.
According to Rosli, this was based on the anti-graft agency’s findings when it tried to locate him.
Rosli testifies that checks also found that Jho Low had left the country on May 29, 2015.
Both of them had not returned to Malaysia since, he says.
2.20pm: Rosli says MACC issued a press release seeking more information on Low on June 18 last year.
He says MACC officers had gone to Faisal’s home in Shah Alam on two occasions, but Faisal could not be found. They also went to Faisal’s office in Shah Alam, where they found just one worker, who told them Faisal had left the country and would not be returning.
They went to Faisal’s home in Jalan Maarof, Bangsar, too, but no one was there, says Rosli.
2.26pm: Rosli says on May 28, 2015, his team went to Low’s residence in Tanjung Bungah, Penang. When they arrived, there was no one at the house.
He says they also went to Low’s father’s office in Penang, but could not get anyone. When they checked Low’s passport information, they found out that the businessman had left Malaysia a few days earlier.
2.29pm: Rosli says no one responded to MACC’s press release seeking information on Low’s whereabouts.
He says on October 17, 2015, in Jakarta, and at the end of that month, they managed to get to Faisal and record his statement. He says they also recorded Low’s statement in Abu Dhabi in November 2015. Both promised to return to Malaysia and testify.
Asked why he did not set bail for the duo, Rosli says it was because Faisal and Low gave an assurance that they would return.
He testifies that arrest warrants for the two were issued on May 22 last year.
2.41pm: Rosli says he worked with Bukit Aman to release Interpol-issued Red Notices against Low and Faisal. The Red Notices were sent to countries where they were likely hiding, namely Hong Kong, China, Thailand and Indonesia, as well as the Chinese special administrative region of Macau.
Interpol had issued the notice on June 11 last year, says Rosli.
He adds that Malaysia revoked Faisal and Low’s passports on July 25 and June 14 last year, respectively.
3.04pm: Low last left Malaysia on May 29, 2015, from Subang airport, while Faisal’s last exit from the country was via Kuala Lumpur International Airport on May 7 last year, says Rosli.
He adds that Red Notices were also issued against Redzuan Adam Shah and Toh Lian Seng.
3.15pm: Rosli testifies that Malaysian authorities had alerted Hong Kong Interpol’s national central bureau last year on the whereabouts of Low.
According to Rosli, both Low and another suspect in the 1MDB case, Tan Kim Loong, were at the Maggie and Rose Club in Repulse Bay.
This information was relayed to Hong Kong authorities by Bukit Aman through an email sent on June 17, 2018.
However, he says the Hong Kong authorities were unable to find Low there.
3.16pm: Rosli tells the court that the MACC team reached out to St Kitts and Nevis in the Caribbean because Low has citizenship there. He says there was no response.
3.45pm: Rosli testifies that Jho Low’s four associates – Jasmine Loo, Casey Tang, Terence Geh and Eric Tan – were suspected to be in the same countries as him.
The 57th witness says this during examination by DPP Ishak Mohd Yusoff.
Rosli says MACC had contacted the Interpol National Central Bureaus of the countries Low and his associates frequent or believed to be located for the distribution of Red Notices.
Ishak: Which countries?
Rosli: Same as I mentioned (for Jho Low) – China, Hong Kong, Myanmar, Indonesia, Thailand, St Kitts and Nevis.
Ishak: Were the Red Notices executed?
Rosli: Not until today.
3.46pm: Court takes a recess.
4.09pm: Court resumes with Rosli verifying Red Notices issued to other persons involved in 1MDB.
4.22pm: Rosli says AmBank could not produce original documents to MACC because Bank Negara had already seized them. Among them were SRC’s bank statements, Najib’s bank statements, remittances, confirmation advice, and cheques.
4.38pm: Rosli is verifying and marking documents that were seized at AmBank.
5.03pm: Court is adjourned till 9am tomorrow.
