The National Registration Department (NRD) has lodged a police report regarding a “document” being circulated on social media which is supposedly meant for a “special application” for an identity card.

The department said in a statement that no such document existed.

It said it hoped the public would not be fooled by such fake news and asked people not to spread the message, which has since gone viral.

“The department has filed a police report on the matter. There are no third parties or agents registered as representatives of NRD in any form of business. All official documents are only released by the department’s branches and will not be distributed carelessly to the public,” it said.

In a Facebook posting, NRD carried a copy of the form with the word ‘PALSU’ (Fake) across it.

It said: “Note that the document below is fake and the document was not issued by the National Registration Department (JPN).”

The fake identity registration form requires the applicant to promise to vote for Barisan Nasional, failing which the identity card will be “cancelled”.

The fake form was ridden with mistakes, including no request for the applicant’s home address.
