The younger generation may not know who Roger Moore is but Baby Boomers and the early Gen Xers probably saw British actor him in action as the suave James Bond. Baby Boomers would also remember him as Simon Templar in the TV series The Saint which ran from 1962-1969.
Aged 89, Sir Roger Moore died of cancer in Switzerland today. In accordance with his wishes, there will be a private funeral for Moore in Monaco. Moore was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2003.
The longest-serving Bond, Moore starred in seven James Bond films between 1973 and 1985. They were Live and Let Die, The Man with the Golden Gun, The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker, For Your Eyes Only, Octopussy and his final appearance, A View to a Kill.
