Hold on tightly to your Malaysian passport as it has been ranked the fifth most ‘powerful’ in the world out of a total of 199 countries.
Germany clinched the top spot, while our southern neighbour Singapore shared the second spot with Sweden. The USA and seven European nations, including the UK, were ranked third. Coming out as the second-highest ranked Asean country, Malaysia took the fifth spot, together with Ireland, Canada and New Zealand. The lowest ranked was Afghanistan. The 2017 ranking was recently released in Arton Capital’s Passport Index, the world’s most popular online interactive tool, which ranks the passports of the world for user-friendliness. It is the only real-time global ranking of the world’s passports, updated whenever new visa waivers and changes are announced.
Among the criteria of the ranking is how many visa-free or visa-on-arrival countries can be visited by passport holders. The Malaysian passport gives visa-free access to 151 countries, which means a high level of travel freedom for Malaysians.
