Sex video – a litmus test for PH, says veteran journalist.

Recently, veteran journalist-turned-politician Kadir Jasin spoke up on the issue of the gay sex video implicating Minister Azmin Ali, labelling the incident as the “litmus test” of Pakatan Harapan.

He wrote, “The question that every PH leader must ask is, do I use my party and my government position to shield me from my wrongdoing or I shield my party and my government from shame by doing the right thing?”

His message is clear – stop using the government to shield your wrongdoings.

He cited examples of foreign political leaders who resigned over lesser “misconduct” like Lord Prufumo.

Kadir was obviously not directing the message just to any individuals but to those who are in a position of power.

He also mentioned that “The scandal was a test to the ability of the PH leadership to stay above the fray and to put the interest of the country above personal likes and dislikes”.

Perhaps the leaders involved in this scandal should take heed of what Kadir has said and not hide behind their positions of power.

To a layman like me, perhaps the noblest thing to do would be to at least take leave pending the outcome of the investigations.

For most Malaysians, it is pretty obvious the kind of preferential treatment being accorded to one of those allegedly involved in the video, and it is also no secret why this is so.

However, to that person, it is a question of pride, dignity, credibility and self-respect.

After all, it takes two hands to clap and from the video, I understand, both parties were consenting.

Why is it that only one person is being punished while the other is being treated with kid’s gloves?

This was not the case when it involved Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim back then.

Like Kadir said, this is truly a test for PH and how they make or break it may well determine their fate in the next general election.

At this point, it is not a matter of who did it or was it politically motivated etc… It is only about was it you in the video?
