Pakatan Harapan chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has asked detractors to show proof that he plans to block Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim from taking over as prime minister.
He has scoffed at accusations that he and Tun Daim Zainuddin are conspiring to stop Anwar from becoming the next prime minister.
The Prime Minister said he had “no business” in interfering with the internal politics of Anwar’s party PKR, and that those who made the claims should come up with proof.
“That is a very ‘nice’ allegation,” he said with his trademark sarcasm.
” I think the person should show proof of it.
“I have never even talked to anybody else about this thing. I stay away, I have no business to do anything with internal affairs of other parties,” said Dr Mahathir at a press conference on Monday (Aug 13).
The claims were mostly made by PKR leaders who are aligned to Rafizi Ramli.
Rafizi is contesting for the PKR deputy presidency in the upcoming PKR elections.
He is going up against Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, who is defending his position.
Rafizi’s supporters have based their campaigns for their man on the premise that giving Azmin the deputy presidency was tantamount to stopping Anwar from being the next prime minister.
Kapar MP Datuk Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid of PKR claimed that Daim, who is Council of Eminent Persons chairman, a trusted adviser of the Prime Minister, and Azmin are conspiring to block Anwar’s succession.
Abdullah made the claims on Sunday (Aug 12) when campaigning for Rafizi.
Yesterday, he said he had proof that there was a conspiracy to bar Anwar from the prime minister’s office.
“Once I am done visiting the respective states, I will be able to show proof that there are such people, outside forces, who have been trying to stall Anwar’s smooth transition to the prime minister’s office,” he said.
Ijok assemblyman Dr Idris Ahmad, meanwhile, charged that Dr Mahathir and Daim had “sponsored” some PKR leaders to destroy the party from within.
“I know Dr Mahathir’s evil character, (and he has) Daim’s help. Do not believe them. See how Dr Mahathir and Daim used our leaders in PKR as their puppets to bring down the party,” he said during a campaign event in Ayer Keroh, Malacca.
