Netizens, some of them Muda members, disagree with Syed Saddiq.
A DAP leader has criticised the Muda party president Syed Saddiq’s assertion that the party has turned into a “lapdog” of the Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, depicting he went over the line.
DAP Johor deputy chairman Sheikh Umar Ali expressed his regrets over Syed Saddiq’s recent claim, saying the latter seemed to have forgotten the loyalty and support the party extended to him and Muda in the general election (GE15) last November and the Johor state polls in March 2022.
“Although this might sound personal…how could you Syed Saddiq?!”
“Syed Saddiq should recognise the substantial effort that DAP has put in Johor, producing single seats for Muda at both state and parliamentary levels,” said Sheikh Umar in a statement today.
Note that the Muda president Syed Saddiq successfully defended the Muar parliamentary seat in GE15, and Muda secretary-general Amira Aisya Abd Aziz secured victory in the Puteri Wangsa state constituency.
The DAP executive central committee member further commented that Syed Saddiq should not have dared to make such accusations against the party which has contributed to his political growth.

On Tuesday, the Muda president threatened to withdraw support to the unity government if the Attorney-General’s Chambers (A-GC) did not explain in detail their stance to dismiss Deputy Prime Minister Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s 47 charges.
Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming from DAP then advised that Syed Saddiq should have discussed his dissatisfaction with the coalition’s top leadership instead of making media statements publicly.
In response to Nga’s remarks, Syed Saddiq reiterated his position and concurred with former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin, who had alleged that DAP has transformed into a “lapdog” that tolerates the abuse of power.
Sheikh Umar Ali said Nga’s statement was just a neutral fundamental reminder to the young politician, but Syed Saddiq’s response clearly reflects the utmost arrogance of Muda towards DAP.
“He is not Khairy. Khairy can freely criticise because he is an ‘outsider’. This is very different from Saddiq and it should not be happening,” he said.
Also, on Thursday, Umno supreme council member Mohd Puad Zarkashi said Muda was just trying to make use of Zahid’s DNAA case to be reaccepted into Pakatan Harapan (PH).
“Muda doesn’t need to issue warnings to withdraw support or take to the streets. Just withdraw support if Muda is ‘man-enough’.”
In his Facebook post, Puad mocked Muda had ‘unofficially’ left the unity government when the party was contesting solo in the recent six-state election, with a result of “all deposits were forfeited. Muda crossed the ‘red line’.”
The Johor state assembly speaker further questioned, “Can Muar and Puteri Wangsa win without PH support? Definitely not. Just empty threats.”
Netizens have been flooding comments under Syed Saddiq’s ‘lapdog’ tweet on X, with some of the Muda members seen to be disagreeing with their party president.
User @IvanDevarajan commented, “I have been a member of your party since the beginning of the party’s setup. What is your stand? You want a lawyer from DAP to fight for your case when for seat allocations in the Johor election, you wanted DAP to negotiate seats with you. Is this the way you bring politik baru?”
Another Muda member, User @Hisham Hamzah said, “No. You are my party’s president but I don’t agree with your characterisation. This is not politik baru, Saddiq. We criticise policy. We criticise decisions. We don’t insult people.”
User @jules12anne said, “Hannah Yeoh and Yeo Bee Yin used to be your mentor, who supported you all the way when you were being criticised and expelled from the party. But just like that, you threw your own friends under the bus. What little respect I have for you is now gone.”
“PH gave way to Muda in the Johor state election. DAP MPs even campaigned for Muda. Then Muda went against PH in the recent state elections. Now you call them lapdogs. Why don’t you attack Umno ministers and demand the separation of the PP (public prosecutors) office from A-GC?”, said User @Samatha Chong. – NST
