Social media users are furious and confused as to why former prime minister Najib Razak had the audacity to request for a property worth RM100 million from Putrajaya.

They said it made no sense that Najib made the application after he was convicted of seven counts of criminal breach of trust, money laundering and abuse of power involving RM42 million in funds from former 1MDB unit SRC International. He is currently on trial for 25 charges of abuse of power and money laundering involving RM2.28 billion in 1MDB funds.

They are also angry that the government is considering approving his application.

Earlier today, Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz told the Dewan Rakyat that the cabinet received an application from Najib to obtain a property worth RM100 million in Kuala Lumpur.

A news portal reported recently that Najib was said to have made the request based on the practice that the government of the day is expected to reward its predecessors for their service and contributions.

“Can someone please explain to me in the most simplest and logical way as to why Najib is still not in prison? It’s incomprehensible that although he has been convicted, he can still walk around and demand a property worth RM100 million like as if this is his father’s country,” tweeted @HxkxmXhmxd.

“I hope PM Ismail Sabri @IsmailSabri60 administration will not make this TERRIBLE BLUNDER of approving convicted criminal Najib’s demands for a RM100 million worth of government property,” tweeted @imfsea_aruna.

“I foresee that the nation will move against Ismail Sabri if he approves it,” she said, tagging Tengku Zafrul.

Marina Mahathir took to Twitter and asked, “How does @tzafrul_aziz sue for #1mdb billions to be returned from across the world, and yet consider @NajibRazak’s request for land & house worth RM100mil?”.

Meanwhile, another social media user said the opposition should reconsider its Memorandum of Understanding with the government after this revelation.

“Ismail Sabri and this Umno government have gone overboard. You’ve been showing double standards over Malacca elections and now you want to gift a RM100 million property to Najib?! CANCEL THE MOU!” tweeted @BadBoy2662.

“I’m paying tax for @najibrazak’s RM100 million house when he himself is a tax evader and he has the gall to ask for a house. Although it is not approved yet, it does not make sense that this robber is asking in the first place. 100 million wtf,” tweeted @ashrafiqal.

Another social media user sarcastically commented how nice it was to be Najib, as he gets to demand for things despite being convicted.

“Must be fun to be @NajibRazak, he is able to escape from stealing money and corruption and now has the audacity to ask for RM100 million,” tweeted @SitiNismail

Tengku Zafrul had said the cabinet received Najib’s request after Budget 2022 was tabled. He, however, he did not confirm if it was approved and later said that the application was not finalised yet and that it would be brought forth as a supplementary budget next year.

“Parliament is debating the Supply Bill 2022 and has not yet approved it. The government usually uses the supplementary budget to table for extraordinary expenditures made after the budget has been approved,” Tengku Zafrul had said. – TMI
