Four-fold budget increase for Jasa unacceptable.

Former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak expressed opposition towards the RM85.5 million allocated to the Special Affairs Department (Jasa), describing the decision as insensitive given the current situation.

Najib said in the Dewan Rakyat today that he disagreed with the plan to revive Jasa, formerly known as the Umno-Barisan Nasional government’s propaganda unit.

When debating the 2021 Budget in the House, Najib said he saw no reason why the government would want to allocate such a big amount for Jasa when the money could be used for the public instead.

“In this time of crisis, where funds are needed to save the people, a four-fold increase for Jasa compared with that given during BN’s time is hard to accept by many, and courts people’s anger.

“I can accept it if the funds are spent on masks or hand sanitisers for the people (or) given to parents to replace the Supplemental Food Plan (RMT) for children denied breakfast, because schools are closed until early next year.

“But I cannot accept the suggestion of RM85.5 million for Jasa,” Najib told the house.
