A total 1,060 motorists attempting to “balik kampung” without interstate travel permits, were ordered to turn around yesterday.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Shafien Mamat said the motorists were stopped at several roadblocks mounted at three main entry points to the state.

“We have set up roadblocks at several locations at the borders since midnight following the implementation of the Movement Control Order.

“Between last night and 8am this morning, a total 1,060 motorists were stopped for not having the approval letters and also for producing unverified letters,” he said.

Shafien said a number of the motorists even tried to cheat the police by giving excuses for making the interstate travel.

“Some told the policemen at the roadblocks that they have to return for some family emergencies when in truth, it was just to celebrate Aidlifitri,” he said.

He said the motorists were mostly from Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and other states.

Shafien added that the state police would be more vigilant in checking motorists trying to enter the state. – NST
