DAP has instructed all its leaders and grassroots members to refrain from organising any celebration following the appointment of the 10th prime minister.

Its secretary-general Anthony Loke said, it would also include celebrating the appointment via vehicle convoy.

“We urge all to remain calm and respect the King and the Conference of Rulers’ decision. The government that will be formed is a unity government comprising a combo of political parties,” he said in a statement.

Loke said one must work together and unite in helping the prime minister to steer the country out of the current challenges.

Earlier, PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli also warned Pakatan Harapan (PH) supporters against holding public gatherings to celebrate Istana Negara’s announcement of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as Malaysia’s 10th prime minister.

He also asked them to remain calm and wary of potential provocation, reminding Malaysians of the need to move forward and rebuild the country post-Covid.

“Just as the leadership of PKR and PH have not issued any statements throughout the efforts to form a unity government since the 15th general election results were finalised, I call on all Malaysians, especially supporters and members of PKR, PH and their political friends to respect the urgent need to ease the situation,” he said in a statement.

“We all need to move forward and learn to work together to rebuild Malaysia, for the future and prosperity of every citizen from all groups, race, state and background,” he added.

He also urged all quarters to remain calm and avoid making provocative remarks.

“I advise against holding any rallies to prevent the risks of provocation. Be careful with media statements made by political figures.

“Be wary of social media content and messages that may cause concern or be used as an excuse for provocation,” he said in a statement today.
