A source at the scene said Shafee was called to the house to discuss urgent matters.

The lawyer was seen leaving the residence about half an hour later.

Shafee had represented the government in Anwar Ibrahim’s sodomy appeal case and has appeared in many other high-profile cases.

This meeting between Shafee and Najib comes at a time when two of Najib’s lawyers, Harpal Singh Grewal and M Athimulan just withdrew from the embattled former prime minister’s legal team.

Earlier it was reported that Datuk Mohd Yusof Zainal Abidin and six of his colleagues will be replacing Harpal and his team in representing Najib.

In the morning, Najib left his house in his white Toyota Vellfire accompanied by two police escorts and two cars at around 9.50am.

The convoy returned at around 11.30am.

Attempts to determine where they went were unfruitful.

Late last night (May 22), Najib’s eldest son Datuk Mohd Nizar Najib’s car was spotted at his parents’ residence.

The 40-year-old arrived in a black Toyota Vellfire at about 10.30pm and left at around 11.40pm.

At 10.15pm, a dark silver BMW X5 – believed to belong to a lawyer – entered Najib’s home compound.

Checks by the Malay Mail on the car, which had a Malaysian Bar sticker, revealed that it is owned by one Ramasamy R @ Vincent Anthony, 70.

At 10pm, a government-issued black Proton Perdana Executive arrived at Najib’s house and left 20 minutes later.

Further checks also revealed that the car was owned by Spanco Sdn Bhd, and believed to be leased to the Malaysian government.

However, it could not be determined who was behind the wheel of the car, which is usually reserved for senior civil servants.
