“This was in recognition of your loyalty, support and dedication towards the Government.

“You have all helped the Government in serving the people, in executing all our initiatives so that the rakyat enjoys all the benefits

“This (additional increment) is the Government’s recognition of your service,” he said.

The additional increment will cost the Government RM1.46 billion.

“This means that civil servants will receive an additional annual salary increment on top of the annual salary movement for 2018,” he said.

Najib also announced a string of goodies for civil servants, including a new pay grade for teachers.

“The government has agreed to create another layer, which is DG56, for academic services officers who have been in DG54 for more than five years, and have given excellent service.

“The creation of this DG56 grade would give promotion opportunities to 323 officers, with a financial implication of RM7.4 million, beginning January 1, 2019,” Najib said.

Non-Muslim employees will also be given seven days unrecorded leave throughout their service to attend religious activities. It takes effect beginning January 2018.

“At the same time, the government would also continue to protect the welfare of retirees.

“To make sure the government retirees are able to perform their haj beginning 2018 and beyond, I have therefore agreed to fix a quota, which would be announced later, after the government obtains the number of quotas allocated for Malaysia, by the Saudi Arabia government,” the prime minister added.
