Medical personnel have been stationed at the residence of Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud in Demak Jaya since he was taken out of the Normah Specialist Medical Centre in Petra Jaya last Saturday.

Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Abang Openg said doctors and nurses from the medical centre were monitoring the former governor’s condition.

He said Taib’s condition remained stable.

“Yes, he is indeed ill but fine. He is receiving treatment at home, and we have provided doctors and nurses to constantly monitor him,” he said after the 2024 Sarawak civil service day celebration at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching today.

Present were Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, state secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki and Sarawak federal secretary Ahmad Nadzri Mohd Hassan.

When asked whether he had seen Taib, Abang Johari said he had yet to visit him.

“He is still undergoing treatment, so I have not visited him. But we are constantly receiving updates from the medical staff.”

Last Saturday, a Normah Specialist Hospital doctor made a police report after Taib was taken out of the hospital.

Taib’s younger brother, Datuk Mohamad Tufail Mahmud, in a police report lodged at the Kuching central police station, also claimed the family would hold Taib’s wife, Toh Puan Raghad Kurti, “fully accountable and responsible” if anything happened to the 87-year-old.

Tufail alleged that Taib was “removed and abducted” by Raghad without consultation or approval.

On Monday, Raghad denied on social media that she had taken her husband out of the hospital against doctors’ advice.

She told the public to stop making assumptions and accusations.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata confirmed said that police have so far received eight reports involving Taib, after he was taken out of the Normah Specialist Hospital at midnight last Saturday.

Meanwhile, Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said allegations that Taib had been abducted from the hospital are absurd.

He said Taib was at home and his siblings and children could visit him freely.
